let’s clarify a few things…
What is a doula?
Sounds a bit like a magical word, doesn't it? I'd like to think that doulas are pretty special people and it pains me that more families do not have access to what we provide. A doula is there to support you and your family in a variety of ways! Physically, mentally, and emotionally... we're there to help you from the beginning of your pregnancy and throughout the fourth trimester. Doulas empower clients to make decisions based on sound evidence and do our best to help you have the experience that you dreamed of.
How is a doula different from a midwife?
A midwife is a licensed medical professional who is responsible for the medical care of the mother/parent and baby. A doula, on the other hand, provides emotional and physical support to the mother/family/parent but is not a medical provider.
What services do you offer?
I offer a range of services, including prenatal visits, birth planning, registry guidance, continuous labor support, postpartum visits, and breastfeeding/feeding support.
What are the benefits of having a doula?
Studies have shown that having a doula present during labor can lead to shorter labor times, fewer interventions, and increased satisfaction with the birth experience.
COMMON QUESTIONS
What types of foods are best postpartum?
Foods that are nutrient dense and easy to digest are recommended for people who have just given birth. Warm soups, broths, congee, teas and lots of water are beneficial in those first few weeks. Prepping some of these items ahead of time will take the stress off of feeding yourselves in those early weeks as well.
Should I exercise during pregnancy?
Yes, most pregnant people can safely engage in exercise during pregnancy. However, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider before starting any exercise program. Your provider can help you determine what types and amount of exercise are appropriate for you based on your individual health and pregnancy status. In general, low-impact exercises such as walking, swimming, and yoga are safe for most pregnant people.
How can I manage postpartum Discomfort?
Managing postpartum discomfort can be done through pain medication, cold or heat therapy, gentle exercise, and getting adequate rest. Talk to your healthcare provider about your pain management options, and be sure to take any medication as directed. Applying a cold pack or warm compress to the affected area, gentle exercise, and getting plenty of rest can also help alleviate pain and promote healing.
can i baby wear my newborn?
Absolutely! Your new baby will likely love the closeness that baby wearing provides; plus, you’ll get both hands free to do whatever it is that needs doing.
Always read the manual for your specific baby carrier/wrap/sling to ensure that you are using it correctly. If you aren’t sure, take to YouTube or reach out to your local baby wearing group for help!
